Our Process

The Problem

Canada Geese are extremely adept at living in populated areas. Canada geese have established breeding colonies in urban and cultivated habitats, which provide food and few natural predators. The success of this common park species has led to its prevalence as a pest species. It produces an impressive amount of excrement, causes depredation of crops, creates noise, is aggressive territorial toward both humans and animals, and has learned the habit of stalking and begging people for food.

Connecticut has both year round (resident), and migratory Canada geese. Canada geese are Federally protected from hunting and capture outside of designated hunting seasons in the U.S by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act,[66. and the possession, hunting, and interfering with the activity of the animals are subject to restrictions

Our Method

Using our highly trained Border Collie, Beau,  Wingman Goose Control systematically harasses  geese off of your valuable property.

Border Collies are not aggressive by nature, but have inherent herding instincts, making them the perfect breed for the job. In addition, Border Collies have what is  known as “the eye”, and the ability to run in a low crouched position. This gives them the appearance of a wolf, coyote, or other natural predator to the geese. When the geese see the dog, they take off, and move on to other ideal property choices  up.

Our Border Collie, has years of training, and strong obedience behind him to ensure effective and professional results. Depending on the size of your property and any bodies of water you may also observe the use of a kayak, remote control boats, and night laser use.

Why Bother?

Canadian Geese are large and very  territorial birds with a wingspan of up to 6 feet. They are herbivores, and feed on up to a pound of food each day. They prefer tender shoots of new grass, and with vision 8 times better than ours they can spot patches of new sod from the air.

Prime landscape targets for Canadian Goose grazing and nesting are golf courses, cemeteries, parks, airports, lakes, and beach areas. Canadian Geese are particularly attracted to mowed lawns around homes, golf courses, parks, and similar areas that also tend to be next to open water. Because geese and people often occupy these spaces simultaneously, conflicts often arise. Many citizens enjoy the presence of geese, but others do not. We want to make sure that if your  business is suffering from their presence, that the problem is eliminated, for your successful operation.

The next conflict is a direct result of their grazing; Feces. Each Canadian Goose can produce 2-4 pounds of waste each day, and their droppings are not small! They graze and walk, which can result in large areas of soiled ground. Canadian Goose droppings carry germs and disease, and can contaminate water. This can cause unsightly and potentially dangerous conditions.

What You’ll See

You may or may not be around when we visit your property. At first,  geese are very resistant to moving from their established territory. Geese tend to return to where they were hatched, or very close by. Geese will leave for the day, and try again at another time. We will visit your property at different times of the day, and at different intervals to show the geese that they cannot predict the presence of the “predator”, Beau. We also use a kayak, if needed, to get the geese off of the bodies of water, where they often flee towards to get away from our dog.

If you have nesting pairs of geese, we also offer addling of eggs, to prevent further additions to the goose population on your property. Egg addling is the practice of oiling, shaking or pinholing the eggs to prevent them from hatching. This can only be done at certain times of year by qualified individuals.
